Vice President Kamala Harris caused outrage by comparing the Jan. 6 Capitol riot to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington by al Qaeda terrorists.
“Certain dates echo throughout history, including dates that instantly remind all who have lived through them where they were, and what they were doing when our democracy came under assault,” Harris said in remarks at the Capitol’s Statuary Hall
“Dates that occupy not only a place on our calendars, but a place in our collective memory: December 7, 1941, September 11, 2001, and January 6, 2021,” Harris added.

Critics immediately slammed the vice president, accusing her of a hyperbolic lack of historical perspective.

“Your ‘collective memory’ is drowning in exaggeration,” Tim Graham of the Media Research Center tweeted in response to Harris. “The ‘independent fact checkers’ are taking the day off on this hyperbole.”
“VP Kamala Harris just equated the riot on January 6th to the terrorist attacks on 9/11 and the bombing of Pearl Harbor,” conservative Kansas radio host John Whitmer said. “These people are so asinine!”
Many critics pointed out the disparate death tolls of the three events.
“The Capitol riot was bad, political violence is wrong, & people are being prosecuted for it,” Washington Examiner reporter Jerry Dunleavy tweeted. “It wasn’t comparable to Pearl Harbor (2,403 sailors, soldiers, & civilians killed by the Japanese Empire) nor comparable to 9/11 (2,977 Americans & others killed by Al-Qaeda). Obviously.”
“December 7, 1941: 2,300 Americans killed. September 11, 2001: 3,000 Americans were killed. January 6, 2021: 1 American killed (Ashli Babbitt),” commentator Ben Shapiro wrote.
“Comparing January 6th to Pearl Harbor is unhinged. Thousands of American [sic] were killed by the Japanese that horrible morning, and the war in the Pacific Theater had a death toll of roughly 30 million,” tweeted David Hookstead, the Daily Caller’s sports and entertainment editor. “January 6th wasn’t good, but it didn’t result in a savage and brutal World War.”
“You can believe January 6th was bad, and at the same time believe it’s nothing like WWII, 9/11 or any other war,” Hookstead added in a subsequent tweet. “Two things can be true at the same time!
“Pearl Harbor- 2403 Americans killed, 9/11- 2996 Americans killed, #Jan6– 1 trespasser murdered, #KamalaHarris is a disgrace,” wrote Jim Hanson, executive director of conservative nonprofit America Matters.
“2,403 Americans died on Pearl Harbor and nearly 3,000 died on 9/11 in events that resulted in the U.S. going to war for the years that followed,” said Texas Republican congressional candidate Christian Collins, who labeled Harris’ statement a “Deeply delusional comparison from a deeply unserious person.”
“Death tolls: Pearl Harbor: 2,390. Sept 11: 2,974. Jan 6: Ashli Babbitt,” chimed in former Boston sports columnist, radio host and current podcaster Gerry Callahan. “Our vice president is a despicable demagogue.”
In addition to the fatal shooting of Babbitt by a US Capitol Police officer, the department’s union estimated that nearly 140 cops were physically injured or emotionally traumatized by the attack.
Three other Trump supporters died of medical emergencies during the riot, while Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, himself a Trump supporter, died of a stroke one day later. Four officers who responded to the violence and at least one accused rioter later died by suicide.
Harris also incorrectly described the US as the “oldest” democracy in the world, when the concept originated in ancient Athens in the sixth century B.C.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended the vice president’s comparison later on Thursday, arguing they amounted to distractions from the real issues raised by last year’s violence.
“For those who are being critics of the Vice President’s remarks, instead of focusing on or analyzing comparisons of moments in history, I would suggest that they be part of solving the threats of democracy that occurs today, that is happening today,” she said, “and they’re using this as an excuse not to be part of that.”

LET THE ‘INSURRECTION’ PORN BEGIN
Jan 6th 2022 marked the one-year anniversary of the January 6th Capitol riot, which Democrats have dubbed the “Insurrection.” And instead of remembering it for what it was – a bunch of people who took the protest too far and went into the Capitol building; a handful clashing with police – Democrats have branded it the most dangerous attack on our nation since the Civil War… [Spoiler: It wasn’t]
Let’s set the table: On January 6th, 2021, about 1 million people were at the Capitol to protest the results of the election. As of today, roughly 700 people have been charged with crimes related to that day. That means the other 999,300 people committed no crimes. And of the 700 charged, here are some of their crimes:
600 misdemeanor violations like being within the restricted area of the Capitol grounds
275 charges for obstructing the normal function of government
225 charges of assaulting or impeding law enforcement
75 charges for using dangerous weapons against officers like flagpoles and mace
45 were charged with destruction of government property
Notice anything missing from these charges? There are no charges of insurrection.
The central claim by Democrats is that these people coordinated a premeditated plan to take over the Capitol. But a year later there are no charges that support their claim.
For perspective: These charges are what we called a regular Tuesday during the BLM and ANTIFA riots during the summer of 2020. The three highlighted charges are not something I support. I am not a proponent of political violence. That’s the left’s style. But at the same time, let’s not make more of it than it was.
Back up: Democrats want you to believe that the 2021 riot was a unique and unparalleled event in modern American history.
I guess they forgot that:
In 2017, after Donald Trump was sworn in as President, six police officers were injured and 217 left-wing protestors were arrested in what CNN called “ugly street clashes in downtown Washington.”
A few months later in June 2017, a Bernie Sanders supporter actually opened fire on Republican lawmakers during a Congressional baseball game, shooting and almost killing Rep. Steve Scalise.
In the summer of 2020, left-wing BLM and ANTIFA rioters descended on the White House, setting fire to a church across the street and pushing through blockades. It got so bad that Trump was taken to the White House bunker.
On March 1, 1954, in the very House chamber where Capitol Police shot and killed a Trump supporter during the “insurrection”, four members of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party entered the House chamber in the Capitol and opened fire on members of Congress while they voted on legislation. Five congressmen were wounded during the shooting.
Trump: Biden’s Press Secretary told reporters yesterday that Biden will speak during the memorial service and he plans to place the blame directly on former President Trump. Because that’s what communists do.
But remember:
The first breach of the Capitol happened while Trump was still giving his speech, about a mile away.
When Biden inevitably claims that Trump incited his supporters to march to the Capitol, remember Trump said: “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”
Don’t let Democrats re-write history about Jan 6th and what happened.
